Question
I am experiencing relationship problems – do I need legal advice?
Answer
Almost certainly. We suggest that you see us for about an hour when you are considering your options. We can explain the law which is likely to apply which will help you negotiate with your partner. We will also give you some indication as to the probable legal costs involved if you continue to instruct solicitors so that you can form a view on whether you do need and can afford ongoing legal advice.

Question
My elderly mother is becoming increasingly infirm and forgetful. I would like to help her with some of her financial and legal responsibilities. Can Neves help me?
Answer
You and your mother probably need to consider having a Lasting Power of Attorney. You can obtain a Lasting Power of Attorney when your mother becomes too unwell to manage her own affairs but by that stage the application and process for obtaining an LPA is much more complicated and therefore expensive and currently very slow. It is a good idea to plan in advance for failures in health and mental capacity and we at Neves have years of experience of providing support and advice.

Question
Can I deal with my business property without seeing a solicitor?
Answer
Dealing with any property is always a big decision and can lead to serious consequences if you get it wrong.
If you own a property and are considering granting a Lease, speaking to our expert solicitors at Neves at an early stage can highlight issues that you may not otherwise think to include during the initial negotiations with your prospective Tenant. There are new regulations now in place regarding energy performance certificates that must be considered before seeking Tenants for your property and we at Neves can assist you with this and if necessary refer you to specialist surveyors.
If you are thinking of purchasing a property for your business then we at Neves can assist you in structuring the transaction to best suit your requirements and if you are leasing the property then we at Neves can assist you in negotiating the finer points of the Lease. Many new Leases now need to be registered with the Land Registry and often some amount of stamp duty tax is payable, which can lead to fines and specific difficulties if you get this wrong.
