Award Categories
1. Caring and Sharing Award

Judges will be looking to recognise outstanding individuals, teams or organisations working in the public, private or voluntary sector. For example, a good neighbour, whose unstinting efforts and generous contribution to the lives of others has made a real difference, or whose work is within the health related support and services sector.

2. Child of Courage

Judges will seek to recognise any young person up to the age of 18 who has overcome adversity in their personal life or made a stand to improve the lot of themselves or others. Examples could include those who are coping with disability or medical problems, young carers or those who have helped organise anti-bullying or similar social initiatives.

3. Best Volunteer

This award will go to the individual, or group, the judges has considered has made an outstanding contribution to the local voluntary sector, either through fundraising initiatives, voluntary work or other support.

4. Young Achiever

This award will seek to recognise an outstanding effort and levels of achievement by a young person aged 19 or under, either in their school lives, in a sporting context or within the wider community.

5. Community Project of the Year

Judges will be looking to recognise an arts, sports, community based or environmental project initiated by local authorities, charities, community groups, schools or others which has established a new service or made a substantial improvement to previously.

6. Making the Community Safer Award

Nominees can include individuals or teams working in community support roles (eg PCSO, parish warden, street services). Individual members of the public or groups who have acted to tackle crime, disorder or anti social behaviour, or any individual or group which has made a positive community contribution in terms of environmental improvement.

7. Adult Achiever Award

Someone over the age of 21 who still strives and continues to achieve great things at work, in their profession, in the field of sport, or a hobby or pastime.

8. Community Company of the Year

Nominations are welcome in support of companies and commercial organisations which can show a commitment to the community in which they are based. Judges will be looking for evidence of sponsorship and support for schools, charities and community initiatives, schemes that encourage staff to become involved in community activities, and adoption of workplace best practice in terms of recycling and environmental impact.

9. School of the Year Award

A school that has shown, unity, purpose and/or achievement in any field though not necessarily measured alone by the numbers of exams passed, its Ofsted report or League Table placing.   Judges will be looking for evidence of leadership and teamwork displayed by staff, pupils and/or parents. They will also consider these achievements with regard to the school's catchment area, social and ethnic mix.

10. The Peoples Choice award

This award will be decided by public vote following the short listing of entries by the judging panel.
